Internet access gets disabled when VPN connection is established

Guides, Network
Similarly VPN users complain that they cannot access other resources on their home network when the VPN connection is established This generally happens as a result of split-tunneling being disabled. While split-tunneling can pose security risks, these risks can be mitigated to a point by having strong, enforced security policies in place and automatically pushed to the client upon connection (for example, a policy could require that current antivirus software be installed, or that a firewall be present). On a PIX, use this command to enable split tunneling: vpngroup vpngroupname split-tunnel split_tunnel_acl You should have a corresponding access-list command that defines what will come through the encrypted tunnel and what will be sent out in the clear. For example,access-list split_tunnel_acl permit ip 10.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 any, or whatever your IP range is.

How to install Cisco VPN Client 5.0.x without Firewall

Guides, Network
Sometimes when trying to install Cisco VPN client for windows it gives an error in the middle and refuses to complete the install process. This is very annoying. One reason for this could that the firewall component of the VPN client fails to install. We can do a workaround for this to complete the installation process. This way it skips the firewall installation and installs the vpn client only which runs just fine. Please note this method only works for VPN client versions after 5.0. Beginning with VPN Client Release 5.0.3.0560, an MSI installation flag was added to avoid the installation of firewall. To do a custom install first we need to extract all the setup files in a new folder from setup.exe file using WINRAR or WINZIP or any other compression/decompression utility. Then open a command prompt window…

Disable USB Flash Drives on Network or Remote Computer

Network, Tools & Utility, USB Flash Drives
USB Flash drives are very dangerous for network computers. These can brings viruses and other stuff like that on the network connected systems and some of them propagate them selves to all the systems. On the other hand Flash Drives are also a threat for the company's secret data or information. To prevent the use of Flash Drives, network administrators use different methods such as manually disabling all the usb ports on all the computers, using group policies to prevent the installation of usb flash drives or third party software. I have also faced the same problem in my company, after trying various solutions as mentioned above, I discovered a great piece of utility software which solved all the problems related to USB Flash drives instantly. This tiny application runs…

How to transfer/assign windows user profiles to other domain\user

Guides, Network, Software, Tools & Utility
A User Profile  is where Windows  stores  your  stuff.  It  is where  your Desktop, “My Documents”, “My Pictures” and “My Music” files are all saved. Your User Profile  is also where Windows keeps all the information that makes your computer personal to you, like your desktop wallpaper, Internet favorites and the lists of documents you've recently opened. Programs specific configuration and preferences are also stored in the user profile. By default versions prior to Vista and windows 7 store user profiles in a folder named “Documents and settings\USERNAME” inside root of the installation drive. However windows vista and 7 use “Users\USERNAME” for this purpose. In a domain or non domain environment, some times it is required to move a user profile from one domain to other without affecting any of…
