File hashes (MD5, SHA1 etc) are very useful to verify the authenticity of files. For example you have downloaded a file from the internet and you need to make sure that the file is downloaded correctly or not modified during the process. Many download sites are now providing file hash information along with download links. We can easily compare the downloaded file’s hash with the hash given on the download page of that file. if the hashed match, then it’s 100% genuine file. it also means that downloaded file is in its original condition.

There is a great little utility which can be embedded into the file properties dialog box. It is called HashTab Setup.

it is basically a windows shell extension. It is very easy to use. I assume that there is no need to explain the usage in detail. Have a look at the following screen shots (quite self explanatory).

Just install it, and get into the properties of any file. there you

will see a new tab named File Hashes.
